Y’all I am SO excited— we just booked a vacation for later this fall! I can’t tell you how much I’ve longed for a vacation. I didn’t travel during my pregnancy and though our trip to Toronto was fun, it wasn’t the relaxing beach vacation I craved (and it didn’t help that I was a hormonal mess for the better part of the trip).
The best part of all of this is that I invited my mom and her husband as well as my in-laws to join us and they all said yes! It will be so nice for my mom especially to have extra time with Harper and we will get to have fun with family but also have amazing caretakers for Harper so we can have some date nights and do things like swim with dolphins and go snorkeling. I feel so lucky that everyone was able to come!
We picked Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas because the resort has lots of fun things for little ones like splash pads, shallow pools and aquariums. There’s just so much to see and do along with beautiful beaches, and several of our friends have gone and loved it!
Inspired by our upcoming trip, below are some of my favorite swimsuit and cover-up picks! I already own a lot of bikinis so I may pick up a couple of one pieces for our trip so I can have a variety of suits to choose from.
Here are some of my favorite pieces by Zinke Swim, Nordstrom & Victoria’s Secret!
Beach Vacation + Swimwear Picks!

Have you been to Atlantis? If so, I would love to hear your feedback!

I don't want to be a Debbie the Downer but I would suggest watching "The Cove" or looking into these tourist programs and reconsider swimming with dolphins on your vacation. Dolphins are not meant to be held in captivity and paraded around for our enjoyment and photo opp. I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I just want to inform you. Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for your comment! I believe Atlantis doesn't actually let you swim with dolphins, it's like a shallow water area where you can see them (I don't think you can hold them or ride them or anything like that). They also don't allow you to take photos. I will look into it. I did see the documentary blackfish, which was very sad.

Congrats on booking your beach vacation! We took our daughter on a beach vacation to Pensacola when she was just 9 months old and have been going every year since! (she's now 5) Having grandparents around definitely helps with the "relaxing"part of vacation. Have fun!!

Y'all will have a great time! There are great kids pools and lots of beach front to play on. The bahamas is such a clean, fun place. I would recommend going to the Fish Fry for lunch one afternoon, it's amazing!

I was there in February – great time to get away from the horrible winter we had (I live in NY and went with a group of people from all over the US).
The best part for me was snorkeling 🙂 .
Loved the days away without snow and the beautiful beaches…
I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, so will limit to say I would never return.

Thank you! Interesting you say that because everyone I've talked to had a great experience and either has or is planning to return. Sorry you had a bad experience!

It was fun and a great experience but the hotel had a lot of little details (the aquarium tank was leaking and had water and towels all over the place, on the weekend they allowed a huge amount of young local girls -teens- in to the club and bars to "chat" with guests, they close the beach and pools at 5pm, etc).
So for the price of Atlantis I expected something different.
The place is beautiful, but I fell in love with Cancun and the Mayan Riviera and that is where we plan to return 🙂
I'm sure you guys will have fun, there is so much to do and the beach is gorgeous… and I want to think they have fixed a thing or two since Feb. :p

How exciting! I can't wait to hear more about trip planning/packing and see your recaps. We are going to Cancun in October and I'm so excited!

We have had good experiences at Atlantis. It's expensive, but if you're prepared, it's quite lovely. We always see celebrities when we go there, keep your eyes open. Last time we saw Betsey Johnson and we chatted with her. If you want a romantic dinner, try Ocean Club, it's just a couple miles from the big resort, it was featured in one of the James Bond movies, Casino Royale I think.

That is very exciting! My parents invited us to their beach time share in Marco Island in November and I can't wait – I love vacations with family to help with kids (my daughter will be 20 months when we go and my son is 7 years). It is the best of both worlds since you get some adult time but also a fun vacation with the kids as well. I am looking forward to your packing and planning posts!!

How fun! I've always wanted to go to the Bahamas! I bet you'll have a wonderful vacation, especially wearing one of these pretty suits!

How exciting! I keep hinting to my inlays about doing a family vacay to Hawaii next year! Extra caretakers would make it possible to actually sneak in some fun things like snorkeling with the hubs.

You did a great choice;
Once per year, we came to America for some shopping 😀 and a holiday just for us -last year we were there-, without our two kids ( I would love to take them with us, but since we are flying around 12 hrs+ time changing schedule, it could be a little bit too hard for my babies (6 & 2 yrs old). For sure in a year or two, we will take them with us; it's a wonderful place…you will enjoy it to the maxx:)
I think it is one of the most beautiful places to go with or without kids;

I just returned from a trip to the Bahamas last week. Prepared to be awed by it's beauty! I didn't go to Atlantis, but the lady on the plane I sat next to raved about it!!! Make sure you enjoy the slides as one travels through an aquarium. I've heard you have to eat at the Ocean Club as well. I was told the sun would be stronger there (as opposed to South Alabama) but I didn't find that to be true. No need to different sunscreens than you already use in Houston. While not the greatest fashion statement, water shoes were great for finding seashells. Just make sure you are hydrated before you arrive. Bring your water bottle with you everywhere and you'll be set for a fabulous vacation!
