We’ve been visiting daycares for the last couple of weeks and we’re already on the waiting list for our top choice center. Depending on how the waiting list moves at our top choice, we may need about 4 months of interim care so we are looking into other daycares or a nanny. I thought that touring daycares halfway through my pregnancy was good timing, but truthfully, I wish we would have started sooner, as the most in-demand daycares have wait lists of up to a year for infant care. Fortunately, many have no wait lists at all (for when we would need to start). We have 8 months left, including the remainder of my pregnancy and the time off from work, so I know it will all work out no matter what we end up doing.
How far along? 23 weeks (I do these a week behind as a recap of the previous week, so I’m actually 24 weeks today.)
Total weight gain/loss: I’m thinking about 5-7 lbs so far, could be more. I will find out my total weight gain at my 24 week appointment tomorrow.
Maternity clothes? I’m wearing my GAP maternity pants and normal tops and dresses. I mentioned in a previous post that I’m trying to avoid buying a lot of maternity clothes because I have a lot in my closet that I think can work as I grow. I also had a generous co-worker who is my same size and height give me a ton of her maternity clothes, which is awesome. She had her last baby in January so I was thrilled to inherit some clothing that I can grow into.
Stretch marks? Not yet. I’m continuing to use Belli’s Elasticity Belly Oil, Mamma Mio Tummy Rub and Mustela double-action stretch mark cream in rotation, at night only.
Symptoms: I’ve had some round ligament pain and my skin is really itchy/breaking out in hives. I stopped taking my antihistamine for my chronic hives before I got pregnant and I think using indoor heating has dried out and aggravated my skin. Other than that I am feeling good.
Sleep: Still using my Snoogle. I’ve noticed some hip pain some nights/mornings from sleeping on my left side the entire night but it doesn’t last long once I’m up and moving again. I’ve had some trouble sleeping a couple of nights too, but it’s not every night. Overall I’d say I sleep well most nights.
Best moment this week: Feeling like things are getting done—daycare visits, registries, ordering our glider, etc. I just feel like things are moving along and that’s a good feeling.
Have you told family and friends: Yes!
Miss Anything? Not really
Movement: Still feeling movement daily, some days more than others
Food cravings: cookies n’ cream ice cream
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing I can think of
Have you started to show yet: Definitely, though I haven’t seen a ton of progress as far as growth, I do think my belly looks a little larger
a feeling baby is still transverse based on the movements I feel)
Baby is a: Girl!
Belly Button in or out? Still in, but definitely shallower by the day
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy—though a little more emotional than I usually am
Looking forward to: Checking things off on the baby to-do list
Thank you for reading and for all of my pregnant readers, please feel free to check in below as well and let me know how your pregnancy is going 🙂 I also welcome everyone’s advice and comments about pregnancy!

I just wanted to say that I love reading your cute blogs but am always too shy to post a comment. This time, I had to let you know how cute you are! I carried all 3 of my babies really low(I have a very small frame) and the benefit is that I had minimal stretch marks. My last was even over 9#! I would bet money that will be the case for you too!

Hip pain is the worst when you are trying to sleep. I had a horrible time with it last night. You look so great!!

I hated sciatic nerve pain. It would be horrible if I got up too quickly and walked. Weird. Looking beautiful, as always! She is sitting low, but I guess that is to be expected if you have a long torso!

These are so cute — you look great! I haven't commented in a while, but I've been reading every week — I swear, you're making me want to get pregnant! Good luck with the day care choices and hopefully I'll see you soon! XO

I Love your baby bump! Makes me miss mine, hehe 😉 I remember someone ran into our car when I was about 6 months pregnant, and I was livid. The man ran a stop sign with 2 kids in the back seat, I was horrified, and when the cops came, the guy was trying to blame my mom (who was driving). Cops knew better of course. I was just like you, soooo emotional and started crying. Can't wait for more posts! I love reading them.

Omg, 2 people have hit you?? That's crazy! I bet your husband wants to wrap you and your car in a giant hamster ball. Stay safe out there. Also, you have an adorable bump!

I love reading these updates Veronika. You are handling pregnancy beautifully and taking everything in-stride which is so great. And isn't it amazing that the daycare thing is such a process? I thought it was so strange touring places and going through interviews for this little life that we hadn't even met yet! 🙂
Stay well,
Marion
ps – gosh darnit…now I want some cookies and cream ice cream!

Oh gosh yes. There are some maniac drivers here in Houston. I do not miss driving on the highways. I had to a few weeks ago and I thought I was going to have a panic attack. I was driving to downtown (hadn't done so in awhile) and people were driving really aggressively.
Your bump is adorable and your pregnancy is going by fast. Good luck on your daycare search.

I love reading your pregnancy updates! And girl, I totally feel you about the Houston drivers. I seriously fear for my life every day on these roads!

Aww, what a teeny little bump! I was this size at around 18 weeks, but I suppose I was pregnant with twins so I was bigger. I had agonising hip pain from sleeping on my left side, nothing helped! x

Your bump is just the cutest! I am 30 weeks and still carrying low, all my kicking is below the belly button still, which I'm really glad of right now as I had a terrible cold and cough last week and coughed so much that I have torn the intercostal muscles between my ribs so am resting up off work sick. Can't imagine how painful it would be if she was kicking my ribs as they are so painful as it is! x

Aw yay! Look at that cute bump!

When I was looking into day care, I had finally decided on Spring Branch Presbyterian after two un-related people both highly reccomended it. There may be a waiting list, though, but might be worth checking into if it is at all conviently located for you. Looking great and I am enjoying the updates!

Was shocked to hear someone drove into your car AGAIN, its bad enough as it is let alone pregnant. Glad to hear you and baby are ok.

Your bump is so cute! I can't believe you have to look for daycare this far in advance! Best of luck and here's hoping you get your top pick!
