Before I had a baby, I would always hear the line “you won’t even have time to shower!” whenever someone talked about being at home with a newborn. That definitely hasn’t rang true for me— I still shower in the morning or at the very least before bed a night, everyday, but what has changed is my makeup routine.
Now that I’m home on maternity leave, I don’t wear makeup everyday because Harper doesn’t care if I have mascara on or not (and quite frankly, neither do I). But there are some days where I’ll be in the mood to apply some makeup and I definitely still wear makeup when I run errands or have company. It just feels nice to do something small for myself.
Harper is a good sleeper/napper so I do have time to do my normal makeup routine most days if I wanted to…but I don’t want to spend the time/make the effort, so I cut it down to a simple five-minute routine that evens out the skin, brightens and defines the eyes and overall just makes you look fresh. I know it looks like a lot of products, but I promise it takes just five minutes of time to apply them.
Dermstore Lip Quench
A friend recently purchased this lip treatment for me and I love it! It has a very light pink color and is a fantastic lip conditioner.

My makeup routine is so different now too. I work from home so I never did full face makeup during the week but I always did my makeup. Now, especially with the heat, I'm keeping it really simple. Great post!

Love this post! I'm pretty simple when it comes to my beauty routine, but even though I'm a stay-at-home mom, I do like to look presentable. I am much more motivated and happy when I take 10 minutes to put on a little makeup and pick out a cute, functional outfit.
I will say, in the newborn it is pretty easy to find time to shower, etc… it's when they start to move that is the challenge. Can't put a toddler in a bouncer next to the shower! (Tip: Buy a jumper/exersaucer off Craigslist to keep in your bedroom… then she's contained at least a few minutes so you can get yourself together.
P.S: I would love a "mom wardrobe" post… I'm sure you will be the master of putting together cute, yet functional outfits for wrangling kiddos!

I've always made the time for a shower once Quinn arrived, too, though I do have a friend w/ a colicky baby who needs to be held 24/7 so I can understand where the saying comes from, poor mama.
My makeup routine has always been simple pre & post baby: Aveda bronzer/powder, tinted lip balm, curled lashes, Visine eye drops. Good to go! 😉
Hope you're healing from your recent hospital stay, you're one strong mama!

I use a lot of these products too. I usually start with NARS tinted moisurizer. I do studio fix, laguna, and NARS orgasm or super orgasm. I use Benefit's high beam as a highlighter, benefit's they're real or dior show for mascara, and usually line my eyes with something from the naked palette-right now, I'm using buck. Throw on some gloss, and I'm good to go. It takes me about 5 minutes to do my makeup, and it makes me feel so much better about myself all day. ~Jenn

I bought the benefit eye bright pencil a few months as as a result of you raving about it 🙂 It definitely is amazing.

Thanks for sharing your routine! My makeup is also simpler since becoming a mum. I'll go for any products that will multitask. I also rely on pink or coral blushes to pick up my complexion if I'm tired!

I need to try the Mac concealer. I've heard so many good things about it. I also have a 5 minute routine which consists of a little foundation to even out my skin, powder to seal it, DEFINITELY some concealer (I've heard that liquid is better than the stick kind but the stick works way better for me) a little blush, mascara and eye liner. Sooometimes I get to slap a little eyeshadow on but most of the time it's just that. I'm definitely going to try the lip quench! Thanks for sharing!

Even though I don't know anything about makeup, I still wear mascara and blush religiously. I think that those two items are sooooo magical when it comes to making me look awake and somewhat presentable!

I also never understood why ppl say you'll never have time to shower. I still shower, exercise AND do my makeup everyday. I think if ppl want to, they will find the time 🙂
btw I never understood why ppl say a baby is a good baby because she sleeps. All babies are good babies 😉 The ones who sleep more are just easier (mine was too).

I have like 80% of these and approve. The MAC studiofinish concealer is my HG, along with the peony blush! And anything Anastasia!
Most days I'm home with K or just running a few errands, I'll slap on some tinted moisturizer or BB cream, fill in brows, conceal under eyes and around red spots, a little bronzer, some neutral/taupe eyeshadow and some mascara. When I'm feeling extra fancy I will line my eyes! Haha! I actually miss applying a full face and I will do it mostly on weekends during the summer!

I have 6 month old twins who had extreme 24/7 colic and acid reflux for the first 15 weeks of their lives. They were tiny. Trust me, I had no time for sleep or makeup let alone time to feed myself. I took a little issue to the "good baby" comment. Babies aren't "good" or alternatively "bad". They are just babies. Struggling to adjust to life outside the womb. Some have an easier time than others but it doesn't make one good or bad. I am sure you meant no harm by it but to a mother whose babies barely slept and uncontrollable heartbreakingly cried nonstop for months, it is a little offputting. Just putting that out there as you seem like a sensitive person and probably weren't aware of how this could come across to women who had babies who didn't sleep a lot. You are lucky though! And Harper is a cutie. Thankfully mine sleep 12 hours through the night now and are happy giggly 6 month olds. Phew!

Hi there—looking back, I realized that my comment didn't come off like I wanted it to so I went back and edited it—you're right, babies aren't good or bad. I changed it to what I had meant to say—that she is a good sleeper/napper.
I am definitely thankful. Harper has her fussy moments, but overall she is pretty content most of the time (for now) and I realize that I am very fortunate.

I know you meant no harm! Probably just stung since the newborn phase was such a humbling experience for me and my family. Nothing can make one feel more incompetent than an inconsolable newborn 😉

I've struggled when Harper has been fussy for even 10 miniutes or so. I have so much compassion for moms who have colicky babies because I know how awful it feels to hear a baby screaming even for a minute. I truly do apologize for how I originally worded my post, it was wrong.

I have an 8 week old son with colic and I don't get many breaks for myself but when I do I definitely like to do a little makeup because it makes me feel better and more awake. Helps me stay put together when he's crying non stop. It's always good to take care of ourselves to keep our sanity 🙂 Great post!

Great Post, Veronika. I always love to see the makeup-routine from others 🙂 I absolutely love the copperplate eyeshadow from MAC. It's such an amazing color!
Have a great day 🙂

I think of you every time I see that Bobbi Brown blush in my drawer. Like you, I perfected the 5 minute face routine when I had my baby (and blogged about it!).
