I thought it would be fun to share what’s in my diaper bag for Harper for the first few months. I think what’s in your diaper bag will evolve a bit as your baby grows, so this will be from 0-3 months.
My diaper bag is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Nylon Eliza diaper bag. I absolutely love it and I’m thrilled that it can be used later as a gym bag or travel bag because it’s so simple in its design.
I keep my Kate Spade cross body/clutch bag inside of my diaper bag that contains my wallet and car keys plus some lip gloss. That way, when I go somewhere and don’t need my diaper bag, I can just grab it out of the diaper bag and go versus having to transfer those things into a bag just to leave the house.
I purchased this diaper changing pad from the store ModMomME on etsy.com. I love how large it is and that you can pick from so many fabrics. I thought this one was kind of fun and whimsical without being too baby-ish.
I keep a change of clothes—a Baby GAP sleeper and a Juicy Couture onesie that I received as a gift at my baby shower as well as an extra Aiden & Anais bib (they are my fave!) Harper tends to have a lot of leaking diaper episodes, so these are essential. I also keep an Aiden & Anais swaddling blanket in my bag but I forgot to include it!
We use Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive size 1 diapers and Pampers Sensitive Wipes. I keep them in a Hefty brand zip bag.
I keep this Kate Spade zip pouch in my diaper bag to contain Mustela Facial Wipes, Munchkin Paci Wipes, Wabbanub (which she doesn’t actually use so I need to change out the soothie paci on it with one of her MAM ones) and a foaming hand sanitizer by BabyGanics. The pouch helps to contain everything and separate smaller items from the rest of the items in the bag.
I keep these soft cloths in one of the diaper bag’s side pockets so that if she spits up suddenly or I need them for any other reason, I have them.
I keep a clean and empty bottle and some bottles of Similac Advance formula in her diaper bag “just in case.” I always bring expressed breast milk in a bottle with us wherever we go as well and have the formula as backup.
I keep a couple of granola bars in my diaper bag in case I get hungry. It’s important for moms who nurse and/or pump to get adequate calories.
I keep about five Hefty brand zip bags rolled up in the front pocket of my diaper bag to contain dirty diapers or clothing. Many places ask you not to throw away poopy diapers in their bathrooms (which is completely understandable, they stink!) so I keep these on hand to contain dirty diapers and wipes until we get home where I dispose of them.
Finally, I keep my prescription sunglasses and their case in my diaper bag because I never leave the house without them.
Is there anything I’m missing that y’all think I should add? Let me know in the comments below!

Good post!!! Although I'm pregnant with my 2nd child, I never thought to put empty zip bags in the diaper bag. duh! Thanks for the suggestion.

My diaper bag for my 2 month old is stocked pretty similarly. I love all the pouches/bags you have for organizing everything! The only thing I might add is some burp cloths. I know my kid is the best at spitting up all over everything, so I use them all the time.

Looks like you have all of the essentials! I used to also keep Colic Calm in my bag, because Audrey had a lot of discomfort after eating….oh and a nursing cover.

I did not even see this post before I tagged you! Funny! We have lots of similar things in our bag! I picked up some of those formula bottles yesterday, and they make life a lot easier! Loving your diaper bag, too!

Aren't they great? they are pricier but so perfect for when you're out and about. We still supplement—she gets about 80% BM and 20% formula which I think is a nice balance 🙂 Hopefully I can keep my supply up when I go back to work!

I'm reading this thinking duh! Why didn't I think about having a bag with my wallet and phone INSIDE my diaper bag! When I don't need to take it with me I'm carrying around all my stuff in my hands. Great tip! I also will get a ziploc bag for the clean diapers. I just throw them in the bag and go. Thank you! So glad I read this 🙂

I had a lot of the same things in my diaper bag when my daughter was that young. One thing I like to do is leave a diaper bag stocked in the car with a change of clothes, couple diapers/wipes, etc. That way I don't have to carry everything inside with me if we are just running errands or whatever. I very, very rarely change a diaper inside a store anyway- I just do it in the car. I only find a really need a diaper bag when we are out for the day someplace- the zoo, etc, where you won't be back to the car for awhile.

LOVE that diaper bag. Definitely getting it for the "next one". And we agree on everything here. Soon, you'll be filling it with toys and food…LOTS of food!! 😉

I don't up hefty zip bags but rather the biodegradable diaper bags (sold at babies r us or amazon). They are super lightweight and cheap compared to zip bags.
Instead of a additional purse with my things, I just throw my wallet and phone in the pocket and keep a extra lipgloss in the front pocket of the diaper bag. I just had my third and I prefer as lightweight as possible!

They sell little disposal bags to tie up your diapers with or at least they did when my boys were babies. They resemble doggie bags, and some are even scented. I also carried larger ziplock bags. A washcloth and travel size baby wash is also helpful in case Harper has a blow out. Wipes won't cut it in that case. Other than that, your diaper bag is pretty functional.

What a great list! I'm afraid I'll be an over packer with my diaper bag since I overpack for everything else, but this is definitely a great resource!

You definitely have a fabulous diaper bag! I love it when they don't "look" like diaper bags. I mean you have to carry it so why not be a stylin' mom 🙂

I also carry a little safety kit that has the bulb thing, nail clippers and I throw her gas drops and vitamin d drops in there! But this is pretty right on to what we carry!

Love your diaper bag! I don't really carry a diaper bag anymore. Ah, I miss the infant days. Nowadays I always make sure to have snacks and a sippy cup (aside from the obvious diapers and wipes). You never know!! Haha.

I've just recently started carrying MD Moms baby silk soothing bottom relief. It's a diaper rash cream that is silky smooth with a delightful smell. Eloise has very sensitive skin, so I put this on after diaper changes. I also ordered "Mommy Cards" with my email, name and phone number, as well as Eloise's name on them. I pass them out to other moms I meet with similar aged babies for potential playdates!

Hi, it's been a while since my teens were babies but one of the best tips I got was to keep a little container or sachet of Bicarbonate of soda in your bag. it is fantastic at absorbing moisture and odour when your baby has been sick on you, themselves or in the car. just sprinkle it on and brush off. For those times when you can't change. Congratulations Veronica – love your blog.

As always, you're so organized with your diaper bag. 🙂 I can't think of anything else you should add besides some kind of ointment. I carry Burt's Bees ointment with me in the bag, and that ziploc bag is genius! I forgot that diapers aren't welcome in some places and I wouldn't want to be inconsiderate either. Thanks for the reminder/idea.

Water for you! That was one thing I was always buying was water for me. Or maybe a blankie to cover while you're nursing?

I keep one of those mini water bottles, and use the Aden & Anais swaddling blankets double as my cover ups when bf, also because I live in Los Angeles I always carry a lightweight floppy hat for both my 10 week old & almost 4 yr old, Baby Gap has the cutest white ones right now that go with everything…and bc I'm conscious of the sun I also carry Neutrogena pure & free baby sunblock stick SPF 60+, it's great for the whole family!

Not sure if you've thought about cloth diapers but I LOVE them…the disposables always seem to leak! Poop comes up the back, urine leaks from the sides. I only use them when we travel, thank goodness, because my cloth diapers have never leaked.
Melissa says
Not sure if you've looked into or considered cloth diapers, but I LOVE them! My son is the same age as Harper (born 5/29) and I was skeptical at first. We only use disposables now when traveling and I can't stand them, they always seem to leak and leave his little tush red, even if the diaper hasn't been on very long at all.
Love your diaper bag! We carry a lot of the same things.

Hi there! I am actually not interested in cloth diapers. I know they became popular again recently but since I am going back to work in 4 weeks it's just not something I'm wanting to get into. Most daycares do not allow them either. We've had good luck with the Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive diapers. As soon as we went up a size, the blowouts were definitely more contained 🙂 hers never leak urine though. Congratulations on the birth of your son! 🙂

I am obsessed with Wet Bags, so I'd add that. Planet Wise ones are great. I use those for diaper explosions because I can just unzip it and throw the whole thing in the wash without wasting ziplocs. Now that Reed's bigger I also keep his sippy cup in there (leak proof is never really leak proof) and I'll put his dirty bib in there after eating out.

Great post. I love your idea of keeping your smaller bag in your changing bag, I'm going to do this myself now 🙂 x

You my dear, are a genius! I will now be putting my Rebecca Minkoff crossbody/clutch in there 🙂 I too have the same diaper bag and love that baby like no other! New follower here 🙂

great list! very similar to my own diaper bag. you should pick up the arm & hammer bags from munchkin i posted in my 1 month must haves, they are the best for soiled diapers/clothes. They're all rolled up into a little container so they don't take up a lot of room either. love that changing pad you got!! i'm gonna check out the site.
Crystal says
I definitely recommend putting a wet bag in there. I also recommend Planet Wise. Then you aren't wasting the zip lock bags, and they contain all the stink or anything else that might come out of the diaper. Just throw in the wash and you're good to go. A lot of people use them for cloth diapers, but they're handy for a lot of other things. Think days at the pool, you can throw wet clothes in the wet bag and then into your tote or diaper bag until you get home without all the wet stuff leaking to your dry. Very handy.
