It’s Spring and I’ve got cleaning on my mind. Cliche, I know, but there are days (and weeks…and months) where our house just gets out of control. I’m talking stuff on every surface, laundry not put away, the floor of my closet covered in clothes…it goes on and on. I was THAT pregnant woman who was all “I would NEVER let my house get like that…EVER!” with a horrified expression on my face. Oh how I’m laughing at myself now.
When I was pregnant, our plan was to have our cleaning ladies come to the house every two weeks but we don’t have a regular day scheduled and by the time I remember to call them I realize it’s been 4-5 weeks since they last came. Not good. So we’ve been cleaning in between their visits and have them do more deep cleaning when they come. On a typical Saturday morning you can find me vacuuming my hardwood floors as Harper eats breakfast and Kevin’s making us coffee. It’s very glamorous.
Last weekend, we tackled some projects like organizing our kitchen cabinets, getting rid of clutter and overall just organizing areas of the house that badly need attention (like my closet).
(Spring) Cleaning
Our cabinets were poorly organized so we opened them up and removed things we didn’t use or moved them to an cabinet that we hardly ever use. Cleaning gives me a nice sense of control in an otherwise chaotic world, ha. It’s like therapy without a co-pay.
We also cleaned all of the cabinet fronts. I can’t wait until I’m done pumping and we can get rid of one of the drying racks.
Ahhhhhhh…much better! I also decided to remove the 2-tier tray we had on our kitchen island because it became a free-for-all catch-all for all of the things. Car keys, sunglasses, mail, you name it. It became less decorative and more and more like a treadmill that collects clean laundry in your bedroom.
I got some very Spring-y faux cherry blossoms from Michael’s Arts & Crafts and placed them into a Pottery Barn pitcher I’ve had for quite some time. Speaking of crafting stores, I recently added this pretty ginger jar to the desk in our living room. It was very inexpensive (plus 40% off) at Hobby Lobby.
Are you Spring cleaning right now? Any decor plans for Spring/Summer? My goal this year is to give some love to our master bedroom. I don’t like the color it’s painted and regret not going with a simple, clean white which would have brightened it up (there’s only one window) and made it feel more airy and welcoming. I also want to add curtains and some artwork in our room. I think we’ve made a lot of progress in the rest of the house and we won’t live here forever, so I don’t want to invest too much, but just enough to make the space a little more appealing.

Yes! Love this post. I just took 2 months off in between jobs. I've never done that but I was exhausted and burned out. I cleaned out everything. Threw away and gave away so much stuff and it was the best thing ever! I added gorgeous fresh flowers that were cheap from the grocery store. Doubt I will keep that up but for now I'm loving them. Added some gorgeous lanterns with candles and candle holders from the Pottery Barn in the living room. I also bought new spring/summer décor for my dining room table. My closets are also so organized I don't want to touch them. 🙂 Happy Spring!

I love spring cleaning! In my plans for easy repair. The walls in my master bedroom and lounge need clarification. And we will have a great restyle floors! OMG! Also my wardrobe needs cleaning and organization.
A lot of cleaning I planned for April: already warm enough to wash the window to plant flowers. =)

I have lived in an apartment for about two years and will probably be here for two to three more, and I am still living with the white walls that were in the place when I moved in. Therefore, one of my spring and summer goals is to paint an accent wall in my living/dining room and one in my bedroom. The color both those spaces have in common is grey (grey couch and grey bedding, although the accent colors differ in each room), so it should be easy enough for one gallon of paint to handle both rooms.

My husband and I are trying to do a deep cleaning on a different part of our house every other weekend. That way we're not cleaning for an entire weekend and instead spend 1-3 hours in tandem attacking a part of our house. Sometimes it's the first thing we do, others its the last thing we do. I'm just hoping the weather finally warms up so we can get outside and start cleaning up our yard!

spring cleaning is the best, isn't it!? it's always such a good feeling to declutter. I was doing the same thing just yesterday to a desk that just seems to gather those "free for all" items. love the decorations by the way!
