Happy Wednesday everyone! It’s been a pretty busy week for me but I’ve been able to stick to my classes and did Pilates yesterday and today.
I was thinking about my fitness goals for 2011 and as I was looking through some old photos on my laptop, I saw the one below from the day after our wedding. We had laid out at the pool at our hotel for a couple of hours and I remember H taking this photo. Until I saw it now, over a year later, I didn’t realize how much more in shape I was then. I can clearly tell that the work I did paid off- I was more toned, defined and lean. My goal is to get back to this body:
So yeah, that’s my goal. To get back to regular working out and to be toned and healthy. I think I am going to see my trainer for the first time tomorrow so that should be a tough workout since the last time I saw him I was in much better shape than I am now. I’m getting better though, I can feel that I’m getting stronger again and it feels good.
WHAT ARE YOUR 2011 FITNESS GOALS?
Onto topic number two, I NEED YOUR ADVICE READERS! I would love it if everyone would chime in on this. Yes, it’s about my hair. I know. I get crazy and emotional about it.
So, here’s the deal. I wrote awhile ago that my hairdresser moved to Italy but that he was coming back.
Well, he’s not coming back. He got a job there. I am really happy for him because he’s happy there and doing what he loves…but my hair is sad.So I booked an appointment this Saturday with a stylist that he recommended so I could move on….BUT then I got an email from him saying he would be home for awhile in November (maybe a couple of months).
So, here is my predicament (and I think I know the answer in my heart)…should I:
A. Wait for my hairdresser to come back from Italy and see him one last time to do my hair…it will be another month before I can see him (at least)
OR
B. Go to the new girl and move on, because it is inevitable anyway and she is talented and comes recommend by my current hairdresser
I am leaning towards B. I just think that it might be time to carpe diem and just accept that hairdressers come and go. My hair colors are on file and my hair isn’t complicated. Also, I have like 5 months or more of roots going on right now.
What do you ladies think? One last hurrah with my colorist or carpe diem and move on to the new one? Let me know what you would do in the comments below.
For those of you who don’t remember, here is my lovely hairdresser David. Thanks in advance for your comments and advice! Don’t forget to tell me about your 2011 fitness goals!
xoxo,
Veronika.
If I had a dollar for every time I wish that I'd appreciated my body more five, four, three years ago I'd be a rich woman!!
I would visit your hairdresser oneeee last time lol… IMO hairdressers become more like friends over time, and it might be nice to quickly catch up and wish him well before he goes back… it may be the last time you ever get to see him! Thats just what I would do ๐
Oh and my 2011 fitness goals (post-poned half a year from New Years, because I've become insanely lazy lately and apparently dont keep my resolutions…) are to get back to doing my weights and my exercise dvds at least 3 days a week for 20 mins!!
I'm trying to work out five days a week, which I think is a reasonable goal.
I would move on to the new hair dresser, since you'll have to do it eventually.
anon- my hairdresser is my friend so I will definitely see him before he goes regardless ๐
You have the perfect body. Jealous!
I am also not as toned as I used to be and it's due to lack of energy. I work long hours and the last thing I feel like doing when I get home is hit the gym. I still take my group exercise class but it's not enough. I should do what you're doing and pull out an old pic of me for realistic inspiration.
As for your hair predicament, I would just go w/ the new hairdresser now. No sense in delaying the inevitable. Good luck!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your body as is. And quite honestly, you don't look toned and defined in that first pic. I don't see any muscle definition at all.
As for the stylist, move on. You'll have to do it soon anyway.
K- I just mean that I was more toned and fit then. I don't tend to have really visible muscle definition even when I do work out a lot but I just felt "at my best" so to say in that picture.
I just had to the exact same predicament. I just moved to Chicago and have had a hard time replacing my beloved Texas hair miracle worker. I had to chance to have my hair done one last time in Texas when I was home, but it meant waiting an extra month, and giving up a whole day with my family while I got my hair done. So, I took a leap of faith, and went to a new person here that came with glowing recommendations. And guess what? I was SO HAPPY! The break was going to happen sooner or later, so I decided to have some control over the situation and just go for it. I'm SO glad I did, I loved the new girl, and guess what, I actually can't wait to go back in a few weeks. I love it when risk and change pay off ๐ Go for it girl!
thanks allison ๐ glad you loved your new hair guru!
2011 fitness goal: tone up. I don't really want to necessarily lose weight, but I would love to tone up for my June 2011 wedding. I am getting married in the Dominican Republic; therefore, I will have a swim suit on a lot! I am like you–just getting back into it. Haven't seen my trainer for months, but weirdly got motivated on Monday to start getting back into working out.
Secondly, go to the new hair dresser! Change is scary, but I think it'd be super exciting. Just be really specific about what you want and don't over trust! Let us know what you decide– I'm happy for you and your fitness goals : ) Hopefully we can both stick with them!
My goal is to continue working out regularly each week, with no skipping! Also, I need to eat healthier on weekends. I eat great during the week, but totally splurge on Fridays and saturdays with the boyfriend (in fact, this Friday we are going to an amazing restaurant in Orange County, so that goal is dead this week!)
I would just go see the hairdresser he recommended. I'm sure it will be a success, and you can get a feel for what your new stylist is like! Good Luck girly!

I have the same feeling about my body from when I got married and just recently joined a gym. My first personal training session is next thursday. Looking back at my honeymoon pictures, I feel the SAME WAY! You dont realize what you have until it's gone…seriously. I am not fat. Just not nearly as toned as I used to be. My goal is to get to my honeymoon weight/toned and/or better.
Hair? I would do "B" only because if you hate the new stylist, you have a chance to go back and see your original stylist to fix what went wrong. I am so picky about my hair, so I understand where you are coming from.
GL ๐
my hair stylist moved to Germany when her husband joined the army so I know the way you feel. I would just go ahead with the new stylist and get the inevitable over with. Maybe if she messes up your hair then he can at least fixes it when he comes in November.
I'd suck it up and go to the new hairdresser, but remind yourself that *if* you don't LOVE it, you can have your previous hairdresser do a touch up in November. Then it's a win, win!
I also suggest you bring lots of pictures of your hair when you have loved the color and be super specific about exactly what you want and expect. Can't wait to see the update!
Isn't that funny how you never realize how in shape you are until later! I find myself thinking that all the time! ๐
Also, I think you should try the new girl. Worst case scenario, your former hair stylist can fix it when he comes to visit! Good luck!
I think you'd manage to make bald look fab….I'd say go with option B as long as she comes highly recommended. Maybe bring some photos of how you like your hair blended (from an earlier haircut). Congrats to David, maybe he'll get the same fanfare there that you give him here!
Wow, check out that beautiful dent in your obliques, Love it! You're so brave to post a full body bathing suit pic, I would never, ever in a million years have the guts to do that, you go girl, you look fab as always.
And yes, You don't know what you got til it's gone can aptly describe my body issues as well, lol. I think about how much time wasted thinking I was fat and obsessing over what I needed to improve. Looking back on pictures, it just kills me to know that I didn't appreciate the body I had when I had it.
So, my fitness goals are to focus more on health instead of a number on a scale. I've been working out consistently 3-5 days a week and have seen good results. I definitely need to curb my food splurges. I have the most trouble with that.
And lastly, take the plunge and see the new stylist, unless you're 100% positive you will be able to get an appt with David in November, then I would just wait and have one last hurrah with him!
I'd go see the new hairdresser, and if she makes a mistake, your old hairdresser will be home to fix it ๐
Hot bod!
You look fab! I think it's awesome that you are taking a photo of yourself for motivation instead of someone else. More realistic.
As for the hair conundrum, I am gonna be an odd one out and say wait until November to see David. It's only a month away. What's a few more weeks? Then, you can book an appointment with the new stylist a few months from now, or whenever it's time to go again. My thinking is, David can do your cut and colour in November, and then when you go see the new stylist, the cut and colour will be somewhat fresh and easier for the new stylist to keep it up.

Love that a previous photo of you is your goal. You were born to look long, lean, and fabulous- hate you! ๐
And I agree- have faith and go with the new hair lady. Good luck V!
I'm all about change, so I vote B on the hair. And keep an open mind; she might suggest something you hadn't considered that would look great. If you don't like it, it's just hair and it'll grow back. ๐
Oh! Well if your hairdresser is your friend anyways, definately go get some highlights done girl! ๐ I wasn't sure if you'd ever see him again or not haha but if you will then no sense in waiting!
I would try the new hairdresser! After going to school for four years away from my hometown, I had to switch hairstylists and I know how frustrating it can be when you have had such a great hairstylist in the past. As for my fitness goals, I just want to work out on a consistent basis. It seems like I do pretty good for a couple of weeks, and then I just go downhill and don't work out for a couple of months.
Glad you posted this- it's motivation! I want to get back into exercising regularly. Getting dark early and cold nights inside should be the perfect time to work out for me. I want to exercise to feel fit again. Before I was exercising just to lose baby weight. Now I want to be toned, fit, healthy and overall one hot mommy ๐
Ha…I did the opposite of you. Lats year I ran a marathon and this year before my wedding I kept saying I was going to get back in shape. Well eventually I went for my dress fittings and I figured it was too late so I did nothing. I got married in August and its been 3 months since I worked out.
This week I decided to change my life. I cut all my hair off and joined a gym. I am sore but I am looking good and feeling better about myself. My goal in the new year is to continue to abuse myself at the gym and maybe start enjoying it again. I may also try to run a half or full marathon.
For your hair – take the plunge and go with option B. Maybe have one last hurrah with your original hair dresser by having him blow your hair out or something while he's here (and then have a fun night on the town).
And I totally hear ya on the not appreciating a hawt bod while you have it! My fitness goal is to just walk more – whether it's getting off my butt at work or walking an hour at home. But walking really helps me the most; when I do a ton of cardio (i.e. lots of running) it doesn't seem to help me as much as intense walking.
My fitness goal is to lose my last 10 post baby pounds. In dream land that would be prior to 2011 but somehow I don't think that's happening ๐
As far as you hair. I would go see the new sylist at the end of the month then you can have the old one fix it if the new one screws it up! (not that that will happen!)
^^ Blogger messing up my posts. pfffbt. lol. Anywho….I just discovered your blog while pursuing for reviews of Gap's recent Black Magic pant line. ๐
As for the topic at hand – Ugh, totally understand on both counts!!! It was bikini photos from my own honeymoon from only a yr ago that got me inspired to get back into shape, too. (That and comparison of said bikini photos to those of a recent Costa Rica trip). I decided I needed a new healthy hobby – I used to dance and cheer in HS/college, but as a newlywed and grad student, I needed something I could do anytime, anywhere, regardless of my busy schedule. I picked running. I love it! I'm doing a 5k soon, and I already see significant results, especially in how toned my legs and butt are now! Fitting into my pre-wedding Rock & Republic jeans was the icing on the cake.
As for the hairdresser issues…my stylist of 5 years got married and moved to another state. I have very emotional issues when it comes to my hair, so I was extremely worried and stressed out about trusting anyone else, but after lots and lots of recommendations from people I trust, I made that first appointment at a new salon. The pros: the color turned out amazing, and my new colorist has a nack for replicating colors I bring in off a cut-out of celeb hair (I am a HUGE Kate Beckinsale & Jessica Alba hair fan). The cons: "a little layering" means something totally different to my new stylist vs my old one, and I ended up with more dramatic layers than I would have chosen for myself. After learning to work with it, I actually really like it, but that communication difference was something I would work on next time….I took the years of understanding between my last stylist & myself for granted!
Hi Veronika! I'm the same way with working out. When I'm exercising regularly, I don't think it's doing me a ton of good. But then I stop for a while and realize, my lord, I was so much more toned and didn't realize it! You're lucky, your bod looks fabulous even when you're not working out much!
Well, if your hairdresser is your friend, you might aswell get your hair done one last time, but then you may end up missing that again! Or.. you can just go to the new hairdresser and then let him know how it went when you see him..

I haven't come up with 2011 goals yet, since I'm still working on 2010. I always workout 6 days a week with 2 two-a-days, but I race so that is just what I do. You shop, I train ๐
I am big on making goals every year and revisiting them often to tweak and redefine with the times.
I love to make a list of them and keep them with me so I can check in on my progress!
Feel free to delete these links from this comment, but I thought this might help you set your goals.

I'd go for one last appointment with your hairdresser. Of course, this comes from the girl who's 27 and STILL hasn't found a hairdresser she likes enough to see on a regular basis. ๐
I say go with the new stylist. Why drag out the inevitable??
I agree…I would move onto a new stylist! You'll find another you can't live without…there is another stylist out there, perfect for your hair ๐

I have two young kiddos, so I have to work out during lunch or I will never work out at all. I try to work out 3 days a week, and I incorporate weights. I've also been eating a lot healthier–cut out all soda, dining out, etc. and I can totally see a difference! I'm already pretty small to begin with 5'3" and 105 pounds, but healthy eating has helped me to feel better and lose those saddle bags!
