My husband always calls me a “hater” because when I first hear a new album, I say “I don’t like it” and a day later I know the lyrics to half of the songs.
When my husband burned me a CD of Lana Del Rey’s album, I was reluctant, but he urged me to just listen to it. I popped the CD into my car and it was like love at first listen. It usually takes me awhile to “warm up” to new music….but I couldn’t even fathom the album would be as amazing as it is. Finally, music that is different, interesting and beautiful. Her voice and lyrics are captivating, mysterious and almost haunting in some songs.
I google’d Lana Del Rey after hearing her music and I was stunned by how gorgeous she is. I think she’s got a spot right up there with Kate Beckinsale on my “most beautiful women” list. I will definitely be trying out some of her hair and makeup looks!
For anyone interested in her music, my favorite songs are “Born to Die,” “Off to the Races,” “Video Games” and “Radio.” I love the entire album but those are standouts to me.
Here are some of my favorite Lana photos. I’ll start off with some of the more glamorous ones (umm, is her hair amazing or what..!? Kind of makes me want to go red even though I’d never have the guts to actually do it!)
and https://lana-delrey.tumblr.com/. I encourage you to follow
these sites if you love her as much as I do!)
Have you heard Lana Del Rey’s album? Are you as obessed with her as I am? Total girl crush material.
Here is the video for her single “Born to Die”
xoxo,
Veronika.
So funny you posted this – I've seen photos of her pop up on several blogs – and the first thing I thought was – she looks like Veronika LOL!
Something about her hair and her eyes reminds me A LOT of you – so if you want to recreate her looks – it'll be quite easy!
I haven't heard her music yet, but now I'll have to check her out!
I wish I had her lips! You know, ever since her album came out I am getting that a lot ๐ I find it very flattering since I (so very obviously) love her ๐
Definitely check out her music—it is as beautiful as she is!
I was just about to say the same thing as Ella – she looks like you!!! And sort of like Emma Watson too…
I've been hearing a lot about her lately but haven't heard any of her music. Maybe I'll have to go listen to it!
i was just going to say that she looks a lot like you and then i saw that someone already beat me to it, haha. but seriously, she looks a lot like you. she is gorgeous!
Come on, I remember a while ago someone told you that she looked like you and you had no idea who she was (this is what you said). You know why you made this blog post…..
I didn't know who she was! My H is really into music, gave me her CD and then I looked her up!
Obviously it is flattering if someone tells me I look like her—but I want people to listen to her music because it is amazing. I am so in love with her music that I had my H burn a CD for my best friend and drove it over to her house before she left for a 3 hour drive out of town just so she could listen to it the whole way there.
i think she's an atrocious singer. She already tried to be a solo artist and had to change her name completely for her second release– is that not a gimmick? I agree with you about loving the simplicity of someone just singing, but she cannot stand along on her voice. she should stick with modeling!
We can agree to disagree—her album is the best I've heard in a long time.
The name—Madonna, Sting, Seal, etc… a lot of performers have changed their names. I don't see a problem with it. Her talent speaks for itself ๐
I know not everyone will like her, I'm just sharing because I hope people will listen to her album and love it as much as I do. If you don't, that's okay too!
i am currently listening to "off to the races"! ironic. i'm obsessed. i think she sounds great live. probably going to be one of my top albums of 2012.
I read on you formspring how often you are compared to her and then you dedicate a blog post with two dozen photos of her? Come on, cry for attention much? If it really was the music you could have not gone so overboard with the photos. What a turn off…
I think it's odd that someone would think I posted this to get people to tell me I look like her. That already happens to me all the time (both online and IRL) before I even posted this or knew who she was, believe me, I don't need the extra reinforcement. It was only after I started listening to her music that I really started to love her. I don't actually think I look a lot like her, but I am flattered if others think so. ๐
She reminds me so much of you!! The smile, the eyes, like everything!
It is about the music—but this is a fashion and beauty blog and I am inspired by her hair, makeup and overall look. I just love everything about her and wanted to share. Sorry it was such a turn off to you!
I liked seeing all the pictures of her! I saw her on SNL and was interested in knowing more about her but forgot to look up more info. These inspired me! Her hair and makeup is gorgeous! And I definitely noticed the resemblance too!
I have to agree with you Veronika, her music is different and refreshing, thank you for sharing! ๐
Have you not seen the plastic surgery before and after pics? She's manufactured in every way.
I haven't but IF she got plastic surgery, why does that matter? I've had plastic surgery. Didn't make me a different person. She is talented regardless of whether or not she has had surgery (IMO). She seems to be very polarizing and I don't get it. She seems very sweet. I have seen videos of her on YouTube calling fans that couldn't make it to her shows when she was at events—there aren't a lot of celebrities that would do that. She just seems sweet and like she is humbled by the support she is getting.
When I saw the picture of her with the roses in her hair I thought it was you, Veronika! I thought, oh, when did Veronika have that taken? You're both gorgeous! ๐
I don't really know much about Lana Del Rey but I did get her CD after the SNL performance just because I was intrigued by the response. Needless to say, I have had the CD on constant replay since I got it. Her voice is soulful and brooding and the lyrics are cheeky. I am beyond obsessed.
Fyi: Madonna's name is in fact, Madonna. Look it up.
โฅ Lana Del Rey!
love her. haters gonna hate!
Oh I really like her song that you posted! I have just started hearing about her recently but didn't know what all the fuss was about. Guess I'm a little late to the party on that one, lol. Thanks for the post on her, I'm excited to download a couple of her songs now.
Angelina : )
Veronika!! I love your blog and I I don't really know the artist… I am going to check it out, now, though. Especially since she is your twin! ๐ Keep up the great work! Cheers! Sherry
Ok – LOVE HER MUSIC!!! Cheers! Sherry
I like her retro nails! My David was listening to her a few weeks ago and I sent me one of her songs – I liked it!
PS – Yes, i definitely see the resemblance. It's in the eyes and eyebrows.
I love her. I was driving one day and this song came on (Video games). It was a lovely sunny saturday morning and I thought of my husband who is away on tour. I had goosebumps, her voice is beautiful. It was just one of those days I will always remember. I ordered her cd and even wrote about her on my blog, on which I rearly ever write ๐ Anyway, glad you posted as not only does she have a great voice but her style is briliant, very sixties which I personally love.
I too love her! Her unique sound and simplicity (like Adele has brought too) is definitely my taste in music! I don't know why people love to hate her, she is great. ๐
I like her music too! Just discovered her after watching her videos on youtube.(Was looking into her after SNL backlash) I had to have her album right away. Downloaded it on itunes and have been listening ever since. I like off to the races, blue jeans, and videogames, etc… I think we will be hearing a lot more about her in 2012. Also, love that her influences are sinatra, nirvana, and eminem. She has a unique perspective and style but still very feminine.
She kind of looks like you Veronika!
She kind of looks like you Veronika!
I've only heard that one song you posted on your FB, and I can't lie, I thought it was terrible lol. I'm all for weird music, but I just could not get into that song.
I'm going to check out some of her other songs though.
I'm really shocked Veronika, why would you approve the comment that called the anon commenter "a freaking loser"??!! I thought you had said before you DO NOT tolerate name calling on your blog? That was something I really respected about you and I'm disappointed you did not stick with it.
I'm with you – she's making me want to try the red hair! Love her!
@anon- You're right, it should be deleted and I should moderate more carefully.
Plastic surgery is like hair and makeup. If you need it to be pretty then you really aren't.
I knew when I first saw her months ago that she was going to be a sensation. With looks and style like hers and that way of singing – she's something else
V love her also! she is stunning and has an amazing style! I'll be watching her look book!
Thank for sharing V!
xox M
I am seriously cracking up at the Anon commenter who said "Plastic surgery is like hair and makeup. If you need it to be pretty then you really aren't." I feel like I look like a monster when I first get up in the morning, but I look pretty damn amazing once I shower and do my hair and makeup.
Guess that means I'm not really all that pretty, lol. ::eyeroll::
T.
@anon—what astounds me is that 95% of women probably don't look amazing the moment they roll out of bed (muself included). So I guess almost all of us are not pretty. Especially those of us who wear makeup! Oh well, I guess we can all be ugly together, right? ๐ LOL!
I look awful without make up, but I think I look pretty when I have make up on and I plan to have plastic surgery when we can afford it. Like you said, V, I guess we can all be ugly together! ๐
@anon—Don't worry, 95% of the billions of people on this Earth are right there with us being ugly!
How you look without makeup is how you really look. A few of, including Veronika, said you don't look good without makeup, but look good with it. So, all of you think what you look like naturally is not what you really look like. How you look with makeup is how you really look? That's what it kind of seems like you guys are saying. I never said anything about being ugly.
I never said I don't look good without it, I said I look better with it, and I think most people feel that way. No one is saying that how they look with makeup on is how they really look. You are implying that the only attractive people on Earth are women who look good without any makeup on. That is your opinion to have ๐
I'm not implying that, but thank you for putting words in my mouth. I just think if you are a 4 without makeup, but a 10 with it…then you are really a 4. If that makes me a "hater", "jealous" or "mean"…so be it.
Okay I just give up on this conversation. Good for you for feeling that way ๐ No one is saying you can't feel the way you do.
Makeup is an enhancer, as is plastic surgery. If you really want to get down to it, so are clothes that fit properly, shampoo, soap, moisturizer, deodorant, nail polish, etc. If we all walked around in our "natural" state wearing potato sacks, the world would be a much scarier place.
In short: Anon, your argument, or whatever it is you're trying to make, is completely invalid.
T.
T,
Just because you disagree with someone does not make their argument "invalid". Plastic surgery is not an enhancer, it changes the way you look. It's scary that you think plastic surgery is nothing serious. Shampoo, soap, moisturizer, etc, do not make you look better, they stop you from smelling. I don't expect any of the women that read this blog to see what I'm saying. It's also sad that you think the world would be a scarier place if people walked around being who they really are. What does that say about you?
@anon—perhaps engaging in a discussion over on this website: https://www.thenakedfaceproject.com/ would be more productive for you. This post is about the artist Lana Del Rey.
Veronika,
I made this comment in reference to the person talking about how she had plastic surgery. That's how this all got started. So sorry, that I stated my opinion. Thank you for turning me on to that website. The women seem intelligent and real, so it will be a better website for me to be on.
Apparently we should all be Stinky Hairy Ape-like creatures…
Enhancing yourself:
bathing
shaving
wiping your ass properly
makeup
combing your hair
on and on
Not wearing makeup or doing your hair for 60 days doesn't make someone more intelligent or real. It just means they don't wear makeup everyday. I know a cancer doctor who wears makeup, styles her hair and wears high heels everyday to work. She cures kids with cancer for a living. I would say that takes a lot of brains and dedication, wouldn't you?
Anon- What does it really matter if someone is a 4 without make up and a 10 with make up? If make up/plastic surgery makes someone look and feel better about themselves, then I say go for it.
Some people like to look and feel their best. If you are not one of those people or you're a 10 without make up, good for you. Some of us weren't blessed with the ability to look amazing without make up, hence why it was invented.
Wearing make up or having plastic surgery doesn't change who you are on the inside, so I'm really confused as to what your point is or why it even matters.
"Wearing make up or having plastic surgery doesn't change who you are on the inside"
I was waiting for someone to say this. Everyone should do to their outward apperance what makes them happy. If it's going sans makeup, great, if you like to wear makeup, awesome. The point is that it doesn't change who you are as a person.
If someone is a kind, loving, intelligent person, they don't lose that if they wear makeup. The reverse is true too, a horrible, mean person won't suddenly become sweet and kind if they wear makeup—because it doesn't change who you are.
Um, does the cancer doctor have a blog? That's what we are talking about. The blog deals with women who have the guts to go 60 days without all the stuff that the women on this blog value so much. I never said anything about women not wearing makeup being more intelligent.
You said the women on that website I posted seem more "real" and "intelligent" (and the website is about women not wearing makeup for 60 days). I am not sure how you don't see the implications/assumptions/connections there.
And yes, this doctor does write blog posts for the hospital's blog ocassionally. What does it matter if she has a blog or not? I'm simply making the point that makeup doesn't define you—you may look better with it on, but it doesn't change who you are as a person.
Veronika,
Actually, I said the women seem intelligent and real, so it would be a better website for me to be on. I didn't say "they seem more real" That one little word that you added makes a big difference. Can I have the name of the doctor? I would love to read about her. She seems interesting.
I'm just curious as to why a person who is so happy "being the way they are" au naturale is perusing a fashion and beauty blog??
I'm not happy being a 4. I like being a solid 8 on the daily, and a 9 on a really good hair day. If that's sad to you, so be it. I have a doctoral degree in a field I love, a husband that adores me (even when I roll out of bed looking like Yoda), a kick ass kid, and an adorable dog. My "sad" existence is pretty damn great…makeup, hair products and all.
I swear, we women are way to competitive with each other when it comes to beauty. Who cares how beautiful someone thinks she is? It smacks of jealousy or worse, a need to make others feel worse about themselves to improve your own feeling of self worth. Other women choosing to wear makeup or have plastic surgery doesn't have any affect on other people. Wear makeup if you want, don't wear it if you don't want to. Have plastic surgery if you want, but don't if you don't want to. It's that simple.
I feel like the more time I spend on the internet, the more I notice that if a woman is told she is beautiful, someone, usually anonymous, isn't too far behind to tell her that she isn't. I don't understand why we tear each other down so much.
Everyone likes to be told that someone else sees an admirable quality in her. So is the issue that such anonymous posters do not think that beauty should be considered an admirable quality? If so, then very well, as that is a point worthy of discussion, but to tear others down in no way furthers the mission of eradicating the elevation of beauty above other qualities.
@sarah—thank you for posting such an articulate and thoughtful comment.
I've never commented before, but honestly I was thinking the same thing as several others. People said you look like her, then you do a huge post on how beautiful you thinks he is. Seems sketchy. I'm pretty shocked since I'm usually a big fan of yours.
@anon—I looked her up when people told me I looked like her—but the number one reason I love her is because of her music.
Yes, I think she is absolutely gorgeous and no, I don't think I really look like her.
I don't want this to come off the wrong way (but I know it will, so I'm just going to say it anyway) but I do get told that I am pretty or beautiful or whatever a lot (in real life, not just online). I don't need to make posts like this to have more people tell me that, nor was it the intention of my post. I would think she is gorgeous (and would post about her) whether people thought she looked like me or not.
I made this post because I had listened to her music for the last week and LOVE it and want more people to love it. I also think she is a great inspiration fashion and beauty wise—once again, whether people think she looks like me or not.
Well good grief, betcha didn't think you'd be opening up a can of worms while trying to share an artist with people who may appreciate her music. I think she has a very unique voice and for that reason only she is worth listening to with an open "ear". As far as you posting pictures of her….I read blogs everyday about fashion, and there may be 25 pictures of someone wearing the same outfit. Honestly, I enjoyed looking at the pictures, she's very beautiful and who doesn't like to look at beautiful people? And it's your blog Veronika, if you want to put 100 pictures of her on here, go for it. I'll still read it, because I enjoy your style, and I can't imagine you putting anything on here to intentionally make someone feel bad, or ugly (with or without makeup)or just to get a few compliments yourself. I for sure look better with makeup on, (just ask my bf early in the morning lol). And she does resemble you, the hair and some of your features, but she is not your twin, and I don't think YOU think she is. However, I would love to see a tutorial on her makeup and hair….I'm a work in progress and need all the help I can get lol
@gina marie—thanks for your comment ๐
It really shocks me that people get so offended by this post as it simply shares Veronika's opinion, which she does constantly in the blog. Lana del Rey has been all over the media in the last weeks so I don't see the big issue with the post. Everyone seems so bother by the similarity that the girl shares with Veronika, it's my experience that most people can't tell when they look like someone (myself included) and also she also talks about her talent as singer, so what is the big deal?. Regarding the comment that no one is truly beautiful if there are not beautiful without make-up…Seriously? Get over yourself…
I think she's gorgeous. I'm not overly fond of the album as a whole, but I love "Off to the Races" for its jaded 60s-Hollywood feel.
As far as "4"s, or "10"s, or anything else goes, it's a pointless argument. There is no empirical standard of beauty, beyond basic symmetry; beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. In this day and age, it only serves to cause more shame and insecurity to belittle someone who has plastic surgery. In stating that one thinks it's "sad," or that someone who has it "isn't really pretty," one only serves to make the problem worse.
Thank God you have come to this post Lucy. YES times 100 to what you said.
I particularly want to highlight this point you made:
"In stating that one thinks it's "sad," or that someone who has it "isn't really pretty," one only serves to make the problem worse."
I do, however, HATE her nails. ๐
Not a fan either…but hey, everyone's got something, right? ๐
My first thought was "oh, she looks like Veronika. How pretty!" However, never once did I think you were posting to AW yourself. That thought never crossed my mind and it surprises me that someone looked THAT hard into something that was never there. Veronika, you are a beautiful girl with a beautiful soul and that is what people see.
Thank you for your comment. Sometimes it is difficult for me to process that people think I have intentions that I do not. Am I flattered when someone compares me to someone I find attractive? Yes. Do I write posts like this to get compliments? No.
Go Gina!! Veronika, I like the red-lipped look she is going for so often right now – you gotta try it!! (just for fun even!!!!) Laura x
It really bugs me that the "anon" person that said she would look into that other blog because those women seem intelligent and real…I have followed your blog for about a year and I love that you write about everything, fashion, makeup, events happening in your life, causes you're involved in, that is real to me and you seem very intelligent! And I haven't heard of this artist before and I really liked the song you posted! And I agree with the others, I think you both resemble each other and that you both are gorgeous! I LOVE YOUR SITE, don't change anything ๐
<3 Mal
Thank you for your comment Mal ๐ Honestly, there are people out there who will never think my intentions are sincere. But hey, if just a few people listened to her album because of this post, that's great ๐
Maybe it's just her hair color but I think she looks like your red headed friend.
This post is actually hilarious – My fiance has been listening to Lana Del Rey NONSTOP for the past week. He is obsessed, I must say (His normal music ranges from metal to hip hop to indie music, but usually he does not like female singers). I laughed when I saw your post, and read the title to him! She must be addicting ๐
Not to mention, I too am a "hater" – I just always resist liking new things. TV shows, music, but he forces me to watch/listen (by playing it in the background) because he knows I'll end up loving whatever it is! haha. Thank you for this post! Maybe I should stop "hating" so much ๐
Oh my! I am reading all this and there is only one thing I can say. Jealousy is a terrible thing!
hello v. please don't let the rude ones through. don't answer them, it just fuels and gratifies them more. i've been following your blog and have been enjoying your posts ever since you moderated comments some time ago.
p.s. i really, really love your youtube videos. i love how you carry yourself. you have such nice posture. everytime i watch you i always have to remind myself not to slouch. I'm 5'10" too. -ann
Wowzas.
Has no-one ever heard the phrase 'If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'?! Maybe it's a British phrase, but I think it definitely applies here! I seriously don't get why people feel the need to read blogs they apparently don't like, then make negative comments?? Do they have nothing better to do?
Unfortunatley, I think I know why they do; it's pure, old-fashioned jealousy. I personally don't think you ever come across as arrogant or attention-seeking Veronika, so this is the only reason you get the negative responses you do. And the jealousy is not only because you're pretty, it's because you have other things to be jealous of such as a successful career, a beautiful home etc.
It makes me really sad that women treat each other this way. We should be supporting each other and accepting that every woman has the right to do what makes them happy. As long as they're not hurting anyone else, who cares??? If it makes you feel better to self-righteously go around picking faults in other people, then you are definitely unhappy within yourself. Think about it this way ; when you point the finger at someone else, there are 4 fingers pointing back at you.
OMG I've been listening to a Lana Del Rey channel on youtube all day! Thanks for letting me know about her. Her voice is mesmerizing and it helps me concentrate on my work.
And, as a looong time follower of your blog, I've never once assumed that you were posting something to get compliments.
I think lana del rey is very pretty and you are too veronika. I actually didn't notice any resemblance in appearance but you style reminds me of hers. I like your blog because although it is about fashion and beauty, you never seem shallow. I wish I could say the same for these anonymous people hating on you. Keep on doing what you are doing and ignore them. Your blog has inspired me to take more time caring for my appearance and dressing my best (for my own benefit, not for others). I really needed that kind of inspiration after a tough year. I like that you have very positive things to say. You seem like a great woman. Thank you for your blog!- cheryl
I think music is a very personal thing. I don't particularly care for Lana Del Rey as I believe she is completely a product of a record company and not a true artist, but to each his own.
If you like her style of music, I think you should check out The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (especially the song "Maps"), Florence and the Machine, and Imogen Heap (and her group Frou Frou).
Oh and I think you're MUCH prettier than her too! ๐
Tara- I do listen to Imogen Heap and Frou Frou ๐ we played "let go" at our wedding ๐
I'm so glad you posted about Lana Del Ray — I have been on such a kick recently. I adore her music! And I love her look so it's fantastic to see so many photos of her in your post. Tons of beauty inspiration to try out for myself!
First off, I think you are way prettier than her! Plus, I'm not a fan of her injected lips.
That being said, I do like her photos, but a lot of music critics–and fans– are hating this album and I can see way. A lot of consumers are sick and tired of the gimmicks they are being sold. Lana del Rey wasn't "The Gangster Nancy Sinatra". For someone who tries to be the answer to bubblegum pop, she ends up being the poster child….
-TS
Here is a better understanding of what I was saying. NPR did a review recently and I completely agree. I don't view myself as a music snob either ๐
https://www.npr.org/2012/02/02/145909587/lana-del-rey-the-self-made-pop-star-as-target
Here is a review from NPR that further explains what I was getting at. And no, I'm not a music snob ๐
https://www.npr.org/2012/02/02/145909587/lana-del-rey-the-self-made-pop-star-as-target
TS- I read that her management team came up with the gangster Nancy Sinatra and she doesn't like it and has been trying to change it but she acknowledged once it's out there it's out there and it can stick.
Ignore the negative comments Veronika. Stay true to yourself and ignore what other people think. Negative comments and jealousy from others can destroy the soul. Keep up the awesome posts and I too love Lana Del Rey's music ๐
You actually kind of look like her.
she's pretty, you're pretty. let the haters hate. love your blog!
I have quite a girl crush on her too! Her music has grown on me.. I heard her on SNL and thought that it was just nerves getting the best of her cuz every other time she's rocked it ๐ Love how different she is! Can't wait to see your inspired makeup and hair looks!
Wow, she is soooo pretty! Love your blog!

i love her so much. i literally wish she was my best friend, i'm so in love! hahah xx
