On Saturday, we had Kyle, our handyman from One Call Home Handyman come to our home to install our Restoration Hardware curtains, our Overstock.com chandelier and to wall-mount our TV in the master bedroom.
Some of you may recall that Kyle installed our original chandelier over the island in out kitchen. We were so thrilled with the work he did that we hired him for what I’ll refer to as “round two.”
I decided to order the exact same chandelier that is in our kitchen for our dining room as well. Since our entire second floor is one long, large space, it felt more cohesive to have the same look in the lighting. Here’s how it turned out:
And now, to the curtains. As you may have noticed, our dining room doesn’t have curtains. We had to return half of the curtain hardware and fabric we got because we realized that the curtains we got for the dining room just weren’t going to work there because of the spacing. Also, the dining room window is really beautiful and it’s on the side of the house, so no one can see inside and it brings a ton of light in. So for now, the plan is to leave it bare.
We did have or gorgeous Thai Silk curtains installed on our kitchen window and we are thrilled with how it turned out. It really look very elegant, light and airy. They’re still a little wrinkled on the bottom, but I love them!
As a reminder, here is what the kitchen window looked like before with our Ready Blinds:
and here is the window now…
It’s amazing how much elegance an extra chandelier and curtains can add to your space. Considering we were using $10 Ready Blinds from Home Depot on our window previously, the curtains are a massive upgrade.

Some of you mentioned in my comments on my dining room post that I should change the way the chairs are set. I personally like having chairs at either end of the table versus having two on each side for the everyday. If we ever need to seat more people at the table, we can move one of the chairs to one side and use the bench in our kitchen on the other side.
Thank you for reading and have a great week!
PS– if you are in Houston and are ever in need of a great handyman, please consider calling Kyle from One Call Home Handyman. He is very professional and best of all knows what he is doing. He also gives good advice on what will work and what will not. I highly recommend his services (and no, I was not paid to say that). You can call (832) 800-4441 to set up any kind of home installation or renovation.

Wow, V! That chandelier with the table is amazing. Your home is seriously stunning!

It looks beautiful! I love the combination of the rustic table with the dark floors and more polished chandeliers.
Courtney@SDB says
Obsessed with the elegant chairs and rustic table combined with the fancy chandelier! It adds sooooo much more to your space and the dining room does seem like it is it's own "room" although it's an open floor plan. Great job, girl!

I love the way this whole area looks! The chandeliers are great, and they make me want to redo our lighting. Are y'all in a townhome? I only ask because of the long room. We live in one and this is how our layout looks as well. Have a wonderful holiday!
[email protected] says
@Meghan— yes, it's a 3-story town home
Schnelle says
The curtains definitely give the room a cozier feeling. I love those chandeliers! The bench for extra seating is a great idea!

It looks much better! I would suggest you buy another set of drapery panels- the ones you have look like they are spread out to the max already and don't even close all the way. A good rule of thumb is to have at least twice as much thickness/fullness in the drapes as the window is wide. Another set would give you that full look!
I always thought those two pictures were just propped in the dining room window waiting to be hung. Are they there on purpose?? I am not trying to be rude, just curious. If they are there on purpose, may I ask why?
Simran Chakrabarti says
Your entire setup looks gorgeous V!! We just bought a house too and are in the middle of doing similar projects as you. Funny how we both have such similar styles when it comes to decorating. I'm doing my
Living/ dining rustic and classy too! Btw where did u order that bench from
and also the love signs by the dining window?
Love your dining room set up and curtains!
[email protected] says
@so not martha—the panels were very expensive so I am not buying more, but we do not ever plan to close the curtains, that is why we didn't get wider ones. We just got them for the look, that window will always be peeking through.
The frames are just there temporarily until I figure out where I want to hang them
[email protected] says
@simran— thank you 🙂 the bench is the Lola Bench from Z Gallerie and the LOVE posters are by Jen Ramos of MadeByGirl.com

It looks gorgeous! The whole room is elegant and cohesive!

Beautiful! I just love the black windows too, it's amazing how loft-like they make the space feel instead of white ones.

It looks lovely! I enjoy looking at your home photos because your set up is so different than my own. I live in the suburbs and have a six month old daughter and a 1.5 year old chocolate lab, so as you can imagine our home decor has to be very family friendly and, at the moment, baby proofed. You have a great eye and a beautiful home!

How far from the table top is our chandelier hanging? It looks high.

yes it's a 3 story town home
Tami says
Wow, this looks so beautiful! You've done such a good job putting it all together. Can I ask how you got the mirror to look distressed like that, I'm guessing it's the black one you showed that you got at target?
[email protected] says
@Tami— no, it's a different mirror and it came like that (distressed)
Monica of BeautyParler.ca says
I love that you used the same chandeliers. Looks streamlined and cleaner that way.

Veronika – I love the rustic table with the sparkly chandelier! 😉

Your kitchen is beautiful! It looks like it should be on the cover of a magazine!
Jadey says
I love your house and decorating style! However, you hired someone to hang a curtain rod? Really? I understand hiring someone for electrical items, but a curtain rod?
[email protected] says
@jadey- yes we hired someone to install all of it. I don't really see an issue? Not everyone is handy or had parents who taught them how to do these things. Our hardware had to go right up against our crown molding and we didn't want to take any chances. A professional was worth it for us. Some people can't understand hiring someone to clean your house because that is something you can do on your own too, but some people like to hire maids. To each their own.
Whitney says
Those curtains are beautiful and make the space look so elegant. I don't see anything wrong with hiring someone to do handy work. Better safe than sorry. Fortunately, I'm married to a handyman! Unfortunately, sometimes he thinks he's straight out of HGTV! lol

Very. very pretty! Thank you for sharing and letting us take a peak into your beautiful home~
I do need to tell you that I am truly stunned at the weird comments people leave you. They are obviously extremely jealous and envious of you…..or just plain mean.
Please don't let them break your spirit!

I love, love, love your house, I recently moved into a new condo and have been using your dining room as an inspiration for my own home (my celings arent as high and I have a smaller space) but your taste in home decor is impecable! I also got those fab iseenoise prints for my bathroom. Thank you for sharing and for all the inspiration!

Hey Veronika! I was curious if you could tell me what you paid for those chairs and if you like them. I need these chairs in my life! I've been doing so much research to find the best out there for the price. If you don't want to post it that's fine, some poeple are weird about money. Thanks! *Michelle*

I'm wondering what the paint color is called?
Kairos Moments says
Hi Veronika. I love your house! I have a similar color scheme in my house – dark floors and kitchen cabinets and I have the SW repose gray for all my walls. However I have been looking for more gray colors because I want a darker tone for some of the accent walls. What is the gray you are using? i read your nursery is pewter grey and wondering whether all these living area is the same. It looks darker than the nursery from the pics. Thanks

Veronika,
Hi Veronika,
I just got my flatiron table today and I am super disappointment with the color and texture. The are offering me full return (including shipping cost) but I am without a dinning table now and back to square one.
I was wondering did you sand the surface at all? Mine looks way rougher than yours. Also, do you think you just got lucky with the color of the surface. In the pictures, it looks like like a pale wood….is that what it looks like in real life?
[email protected] says
Every single table is slightly different because it's reclaimed wood. We had them bring us another one because this one had a black smudge on it but the second one they brought us was not a nice color so we kept the original. I think it's the luck of the draw. Reclaimed wood differs in color, texture, how many flaws there are etc. There are other wood tables at RH you should consider 🙂 they have a more uniform appearance
Diana says
Hi veronika! Im so inspired by your dinning table! I’m curious, which finish did you purchase purchase? The zinc? Or rust?
Veronika says
I am pretty sure it’s the zinc as the finish is black.

Hi there,
I'm very close to taking the plunge and purchasing this table. However, I went to look at it in person, and I'm worried it'll be very high maintenance with my children! (crumbs getting stuck in the crevices, juice or red wine spilling on an unsealed table, etc) How has this been to clean? Did you seal it? Can't decide if I'm being impractical. It's so beautiful though!
[email protected] says
I would not get this table if you intend to use it daily with children. Sealing it would ruin the look of the wood IMO. West elm has a gorgeous rustic wood table you could try. This one is beautiful but yes stuff gets in the cracks. We don't use ours except for special occasions (we eat at our kitchen island and my daughter in her highchair.

love this space. looks like paris to me!
(only thing i would change is height of chandelier over dining room table. it's too high – although i understand wanting it to be hung same height as one over island. )

hi love your home! Where did you find your hutch and the adorable mirrow above it!! Love your home!!

It's from crate and barrel and the mirror is from home goods

Thank you so much!! 🙂 enjoy your pretty home!
Patricia says
Hi! Do you know where I can find that mirror or one very similar? I can’t find one as thick!
Veronika says
I would just type quatrefoil mirror into google and see what styles come up! One Kings Lane might have some too 🙂
Patricia says
Also, what kind of flowers are those underneath it? Love this look!!!
Veronika says
I believe they are called silver dollars!
Patricia says
Thank you so much for your help! I actually ended up finding it at home goods, but it’s a dark one. I’m looking up how to make it look distressed so that should be a fun little project. Is that what you did?
Veronika says
No mine actually came that way (white and already distressed). Sounds like a fun project though!
KB says
Wow. Looks great!
What is the paint colour? love.
Pastora says
Hello…love your style, looks so elegant. I was looking at purchasing the restoration hardware Thai silk curtains as well, confused about the white or optic white shades. Can you please tell me which color you have up? Those look perfect! Thank you 🙂
Veronika says
I believe mine are the white— so they read a little more ivory than optic white.
SL Designs says
You get an A for effort, but your chandeliers are the wrong size for the area and hung at an incorrect height. You should also hire an electrician to move your island chandelier power. The hook-over of the wire to center your chandelier is an amateur move. You should also order two more panels so the curtains are fuller. When stretched they look inappropriate and cheap. Good luck.
Veronika says
This post is really old (we don’t live in this house anymore)…but just to clarify, we did hire an electrician to install our chandeliers and this is how he did them. Thank goodness you don’t have to live in a home where the curtains look inappropriate and cheap 🙂 have a great night!
Mandy says
Where did you purchase your cabinets from who manufactures them?
Veronika says
Sorry I don’t know because this was a model home so we did not pick the finishes!
Kelly says
I know this post is from many years ago, but I’ve been saving it because I love it all!
My question is where did you get your dining table? Thanks
