I am so excited to be starting my weekly pregnancy update series! I wasn’t sure what made the best sense when it came to doing these, but after some feedback on Facebook, it seems like it would be best to summarize the last week (so do these one week behind).
I am starting with week 14 and will update every Wednesday since that is when I switch over to the next week. So technically, today, I am 15 weeks pregnant, but this post is a summary of 14 weeks.
I will also do bump photos because I think it will be fun to document the progress of my growing bump.
How far along? 14 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: The last time I weighed myself, I weighed the same or a pound or so less than my pre-pregnancy weight. Because I stopped working out my entire first trimester, I lost a lot of muscle mass that I had gained working out with my trainer. I have a 16 week appointment next week, so I’ll see if I’ve gained by then.
Maternity clothes? Not yet, my regular clothes still fit—though as I get bloated throughout the day, I do start to feel like I want to unbutton my pants
Stretch marks? No (I use Belli’s Elasticity Belly Oil at night and Mamma Mio Tummy Rub during the day)
Symptoms: I still have occasional nausea at night, but it is much less intense and starts much later in the evening than it used to. I am still tired some days (okay, most days), but it is getting better and I can feel myself becoming more energized and productive. Occasionally I get stretching type pains/sensations in my uterus and of course, the bloating. I’ve also noticed that my vision seems to be slightly worse than before, but my OB said that is common.
Sleep: Ever since I got a Snoogle, sleeping has been so much better. They really make a world of a difference. My OB/GYN told me to try and sleep on my left side as much as I can so I sleep on my left side most of the night and take breaks to sleep on my right side throughout the night.
Best moment this week: Deciding that we are probably going to go ahead and book an u/s for about 17.5 weeks to find out if baby is a boy or girl before Christmas.
Worst moment of the week: Getting read-ended by a driver who wasn’t paying attention (I was fully stopped at a red light for a minute and she just drove right into me). I called my OB/GYN the next morning and they had me go to the women’s assessment center at the hospital because I am RH negative. I had some blood work done, an ultrasound (got to see baby!) and they gave me the Rhogam shot early as a precaution (I would have gotten it at 28 weeks anyway). Thank God everything is okay. I do feel a little anxious driving now that I have precious cargo.
Have you told family and friends: Yes!
Miss Anything? Sleeping on my stomach, sometimes coffee, green tea, turkey sandwiches
Movement: I don’t think so, it’s still very early. I have a posterior placenta which means I may feel movement earlier, but it’s hard to tell with a first pregnancy what to expect. I’ve had a couple of moments where I wondered if a slight fluttery/bubbly feeling in my stomach was movement, but it’s hard to tell.
Food cravings: cuties clementines, veggies (carrots and broccoli) with ranch dip, tomato soup, grilled cheese, kiwis, cereal, frozen yogurt.
Anything making you queasy or sick: I used to sometimes get nauseous at the sight of salad, but that is slowly going away. I can’t think of anything in particular that makes me feel queasy other than chicken that is really dry. I can’t even look at it, let alone eat it.
Have you started to show yet: At night when I’m bloated, I swear I have a bump! No one in real life would notice though. If I ever tell anyone that I’m pregnant they look at my stomach and look back up at me with a confused expression. LOL. I am definitely not showing yet.
Gender prediction: I think it’s a boy, H thinks it’s a girl. BTW, I know it’s the sex of the baby and not the gender, but I’m using the standard format of this weekly survey.
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Feeling the baby move and finding out the sex of the baby and
Some ladies have asked for an update on my skin/skincare routine since I’ve been pregnant and I decided I would cover that in a separate post.
I am so happy to be starting my second trimester! Mommies and moms-to-be, please feel free to share your experiences in the comments below. I love hearing your feedback about your pregnancies and what you experienced ๐
PS- HUGE THANKS to all of the amazing women who have emailed and messaged me messages of congratulation—I promise I am working on responding to my emails eventually but it’s been tough to get to them all—just know I read (and love and appreciate) every single email and message!

You look great ๐ don't worry about the weight gain. I lost a tone of weight in my early pregnancy and then gained some. By the time I gave birth I had gained 22lbs (which is still low I know), but had a 8.5 lbs baby ๐
Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy. Being mom is the best thing ever. My baby girl puts the biggest smile on my face everyday.

You're so cute. I predict boy only because the sight of salads made me gag when I was pregnant. I was a vegetarian for 14 months before I found out I was pregnant but as soon as that little test started blinking pregnant the only thing I wanted was brisket and a STEAK. Nom nom nom. I now have a little (GINORMOUS) boy. ๐

I just wanted to say congrats! I don't think I have yet even though I've been following your blog for about a year now. Can't wait for more updates!

I'm due with my first baby in January (a baby boy), and your cravings are SO similar to what mine were during my first trimester. And I was also repulsed by the thought of eating a salad…I wasn't able to until quite recently actually! My nausea and "morning sickness" was also a lot like yours–it seemed to start later in the day (around 4 pm) and would last ALL night. I would lay in bed each night trying not to vomit. It was horrible. But I'd feel okay in the morning and was able to go to work, so I can't complain too much.
So based on the similarities of your symptoms to what I experienced, I'm going to make a guess that your baby is also a little boy! Not that it matters like you said, a healthy baby is all that's important. But I do agree with your hunch that it's a boy! I also had that maternal instinct/gut feeling that I was having a boy before I found out at my 20 week ultrasound.
Anyways, good luck with your second trimester! I felt great during mine and relatively "normal". And it was fun wearing and buying maternity clothes then, as it's still kind of a novelty. Now that I'm 34 weeks, I'm totally over it and ready to wear all my regular clothes again, but it was fun for awhile there! ๐

Great post and excited to follow your preg posts. Can you do a post on how your diet/nutrition changed and what you eat. It could help those of us hoping to be preg soon. ๐

Congratulations V!! I'm so late with that, but I was without my laptop for a bit… so thrilled for you!

Congratulations! I am 27 weeks with my first! ๐ So exciting! I didn't feel the baby move "for sure" until 18 weeks, it felt like gas, but kept occurring in the same spot in quick succession. One thing I didn't think of that I have ended up LOVING was a maternity sleep bra. Hope you continue to feel less nauseous and tired. I never had morning sickness, but couldn't look at scrambled eggs or fish until well into my 2nd trimester! Looking forward to your updates! ๐

Hey V, congrats again! My baby is 9 months old today, and I'm so excited to read about your pregnancy. My 1st trimester was pretty similar to yours, and I have a little girl. :0) My only advice is about stretch marks- I really think it's all/mostly genetics! I gained 50lbs and don't have any, but I have friends who gained 25lbs who have quite a few. Or maybe I just got lucky, haha. Good luck, can't wait to read your updates!

Hi Veronika – I've been following your blog from here in Northern VA for about a year now – not even sure how I started – but we have similar styles and shop the same stores and you share my obsession of all things home, make up, and fashion! Congratulations on your wonderful news – I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with my 3rd – its a boy ๐ We can't wait for our little guy to get here – I have a 6yr old boy and a 3yr old girl – they are also very excited! I'll be watching your blog cheering you on from afar! Would love to hear your favorite places to shop maternity – I know I have my own! AND THEN – favorite baby clothes! That really is the best part, I think ๐ Best wishes – Nicole

I am a mommy, but this isn't mommy related, well in round about way. My little peanut is in Daisy Scouts and they are making Christmas ornaments at their little troop party. Guess who's my inspiration? Thanks for you post, the girls are going to love making them….

I am excited to see your belly grow! Congrats!!

Congratulations on the baby! You look gorgeous. My eyes totally sucked during my pregnancy also, but they pretty much went back to normal after I had her. I think it has something to do with the extra fluid retention and blood volume.

Excited to follow! I was addicted to Jimmy Johns while I was pregnant so it is funny you mention you're not eating turkey sandwiches! Turkey and fruit were my main cravings (specifically clementines and watermelon!)If you want a turkey sandwich I say go for it! As long as you're getting it from a clean place you're fine ๐

You look great! I'm almost 18 weeks now and within the last week I have finally gotten my energy back! I feel like a new woman ๐ With my first pregnancy, my eyesight was awful and I was scared I was going to have to get LASIK again, but about 6 weeks after having my daughter it went back to normal ๐
Mandy Brown says
I actually started feeling my little girl move at 12-13 weeks but didn't realize what it was for a couple weeks…thought it was just gas bubbles! Once you realize what it is…wow. It's just awesome ๐
Frances says
congrats on the pregnancy!! it was reassuring to hear that you are RH negative as I am too and I've always been kind of in the dark about what it all means! looking forward to reading along about your pregnancy! :).. and of course fashion/product tips per usual!

First of all, congrats! My sweet boy just turned 1, but being pregnant is still fresh in my mind (maybe because I'm having major baby fever!). I don't remember feeling the flutter feeling until maybe close to 16 weeks. I think the baby kicked for the first time around 5 or 5.5 months. I didn't start showing until probably 6 months. I wanted a bump so badly and it took forever!
stylestyle2010 says
Congratulations, looking forward to following your progress. I am 21 weeks pregnant and found out last week that we are having a little girl. I started feeling movement at the beginning of my 20th week and it is very regular now and the best way I can describe it is magical ๐ x

Eee! So exciting. I am almost 36 weeks now. I hate to tell you that you might regret quitting exercising. I wanted to get some muscle and lose a little fat, but since I was already pregnant and hadn't been working out for a few months, the doctors advised me not to start a new routine (if I had been working out they would have said it was okay to continue…) and I've gained 50 lbs.! I hope you can eat more sensibly than me ๐
[email protected] says
@sarah s- I will get into this in another blog post, but my OBGYN actually told me not to work out during my first trimester. She would like me to at least walk in my second but it gets so dark now so early so I haven't felt motivated to do that. I would like to try bar method again or maybe yoga or something…
I have been eating pretty well and haven't gained thus far
Mere says
The Snoogle has been a lifesaver for me. I'm 36 weeks and still use it always! Hubs will be glad when that thing is out of the bed. Lol

I'm a longtime reader of your blog, but have never left a comment. Well obviously that had to change in light of your amazing news! I wanted to send a huge congrats to you and your hubby! It's so exciting to follow along in your journey ๐
Katie {Miss Dixie} says
I didn't gain at all until about week 16 or so. I got so tired of people asking where the baby bump was, but as this stage I am glad he has grown nice and steady! I just posted on some of my 2nd trimester favorites! Hope you continue to have a smooth pregnancy. It gets to be so fun once you find out boy or girl!

I look foward to reading your blog now more than ever! It is so exciting to go along with you through the whole thing. As far as the gender, do you have a preference ( I know like all mommies you want the baby to be healthy) but if you had a choice.
๐

@glo- thanks ๐ I used to have a preference but honestly the moment I found out I was pregnant I just wanted a healthy baby.
Brittany says
Don't worry about weight gain! I am 28 weeks pregnant with a little boy and still haven't gained any weight. My doctors are happy though because baby is growing great and maybe I won't have too much to lose afterwards ๐
Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy!

Congratulations you'll make a lovely mummy ๐ I'm 8 weeks this week and don't feel preggo at all!! Did you have any symptoms that early? The only thing that keeps reminding me I'm pregnant is my sore expanding boobs ๐ hehe look forward to following your pregnancy!! xoxo
