Today we took Harper’s to her first swim class! We signed her up to start last week but we had to delay since she was so sick over New Years. We will go once a week for 30 minutes. Harper is the youngest in her class right now followed by a 9 month old little girl.
I love that the classy is mommy+baby or daddy+baby. It’s so nice to share that fun time in the water. I was a “water baby” so I think it’s good to introduce children at a young age and as they get older, teaching skills like floating and getting to the side of the pool and climbing out are crucial (and life-saving).
I remember as a kid, my parents could not get me out of the water. I was obessessed with swimming, being underwater and playing games in the pool. Though Canadian summers are short, I spent most of them in a pool or at a waterpark (do any of my fellow Canadians remember the water park at Canada’s Wonderland? So fun!) I also did swimming lessons at our local indoor pool and swam for fun year-round. In high-school, I was on the swim team in 9th grade…and then our Catholic school teachers went on strike and we didn’t have sports for three years, which sucked.
Our first class was really fun. They keep the water at 90 degrees which is awesome and we spent the class introducing her to the water. We had two teachers in the class and we spent some time floating with support, playing with toys in the pool, singing songs with actions we could do with the babies, etc. Harper seemed to like it!
These are some shots my husband took at the end of the class. He also shot some videos during the class that I posted on my Instagram.
Harper’s First Swim Class!
I hope y’all are having a wonderful weekend! You can see a little video of our swimming fun here.
Waiting for our class to start…
Going for a walk after swim class (BTW, it was like 73 degrees here today so I ended up taking her hat off and the blanket. Couldn’t believe how warm it was!) We took a nice stroll to the park and had some fun on the swings. Harper LOVES the swings. She laughs and smiles the whole time!
My bathing suit– La Blanca– I absolutely LOVE this suit—it’s flattering and great quality. If you’re tall like me, make sure you adjust the strap to the longest setting.
Harper’s bathing suit– Carter’s (no longer avaialble, but I LOVE this one)
So sweet! Looks like you guys had fun! We've been looking into swim classes for E. I can't wait to start them!
I can't wait to get my Mallory in the pool. She's almost 3 months and loves playing in the bath!
Love how BUSY Harper looks in these photos. So fun!
You're absolutely glowing in these photos! Motherhood suits you, and you can tell your happiness is coming from within. I was a water baby too and my parents started both my sister and I in a water babies class like this!
Awww! How darling! She looks like she was having a great time! This reminds me I should post about K's swimming lessons. I started taking her at 6 months, but we haven't gone in a few months, with all the holidays and traveling. Harper's class looks so great for little babies, with the toys and hanging out on the turtle. K's first class, they made me dunk her head under the water! And of course she got water up her nose and swallowed it… lol. I decided to go at my own pace after that. P.S. Is your Lulu jacket current? Love the herringbone print, but I seem to keep missing out on those!
xx Viv
We had Ethan's first swim lesson this past weekend as well. I SO need to buy a one-piece or tankini for the same reason. Love this one on you!
So cute! And you look great 🙂
You look so fabulous and seeing H love the water so much, has me aching for my little Zoe to get big enough for swim classes! Have a great week.

I am ashamed to admit that I can't swim and I really need to learn how to swim before I have kids. I want my future kids to know how to swim and it's nuts that I won't be able to teach them.

Ah she's adorable! My baby will be 6 months in a couple of days and I've been looking into swim classes for him next month. Did you think Harper did well at her age in class? People have told me that it would be too soon for my baby but my mom says I was in water at 5 months. I think it's perfect age.
i think she had fun and it was fun to explore the water 🙂
OMG! I live in Houston, I have been looking for a place that has swim lessons for younger babies. Where did you go?
-Mom 4 Life
Not sure where she did her lessons, but the Houston Swim Club has 5 locations in and oaround the houston area. We started my son at 3 months.
Sooo cute!!! And that looks like so much fun~I was never an actual "swimmer", since I loved to swim in the summers and play in the water, but was never great at it. I almost drowned during my swimming class in elementary school and after that I was never able to really put full effort to it! I think it's great that Harper's starting early. It's not only fun but vital to survival or helping others if it comes down to it.
I love your big messy updo! Such a great modern look. Did you add anything to your hair to get it that big? Or any advice for getting that volume? Thanks!!
I am a fellow Canadian and definitely remember summers at Canada's Wonderland and the water park growing up! We spent those short but warm summers in the pool at my Dad's golf club. Couldn't get us kids out either!
You look so lovely with your hair up. You should wear it like that more often! And Miss Harper is absolutely beautiful! You and your husband are so blessed.

Are you the sister of goglam16? You look and sound so much like her! She was a youtuber and i loved her very much but unfortunately she doesn't do videos anymore.
No I'm an only child actually!
She is so adorable!! I absolutely love La Blanca for one piece bathing suits! Almost all of mine are by them. I actually have this same suit but in Bright Blue. I do feel more comfortable wearing a one piece especially when around a bunch of kids or to a swim park. It probably has a lot to do with that I have a larger chest 😉

She is so cute!

Awww what a cutie! She looks like she's having fun.
I'll be starting swimming lessons with my daughter as soon as we get back to the United States! I can't wait! I wish we could have started sooner.
oh my gosh she is too cute! what do you do about the locker room and changing her and yourself? Is it hard? We are signing my 7 month old up for swim lessons next month.
