The Aquafresh brand has compensated me in connection with the statements made in this post.
There’s nothing better than the classic and patriotic pairing of red, white and blue! Today I’m sharing a few sweet treats I’ve whipped up to celebrate the 4th of July.
Cooking and working with food in general is not my forte, so I wanted to make some fun and festive treats that were easy and kid-friendly (and quick)!
Houston summers are hot and humid so my focus was on frozen treats first. I created two blue, white and red treats that take almost no time to make.
To start, you’ll need these Popsicle molds, or something similar.
One version I made was with plain Greek yogurt and another with coconut water (what could be more refreshing in the summer?!) I got the coconut water idea here. In both instances, I added berries and voila! A few hours in the freezer and you’ve got a treat your kids (and adults) will love. For the yogurt popsicles, I shook them after I secured the stick because it created a cool marble effect inside (to make this more pronounced, cut your berries in half). And with all of your berries and yogurt— save some to make your little ones yogurt parfaits for breakfast!
Another red, white and blue snack that’s perfect for kids are fruit kabobs! I just cut the regular kabob sticks in half and added fruit alternating the pattern. If you wanted to make them extra sweet, you could add marshmallows as well! For a fun touch, I used a cookie cutter to cut watermelon into stars. These would work really well to decorate a fruit platter as well.
And for the adults, it’s so simple to make a tray of ice cubes with red and blue (raspberries and blueberries) to add to water, punch or drinks! I’ve been partnering with Aquafresh® throughout the year and one of the things I always mention is sugar acid protection. That message speaks to me because I have always been a lover of sweets (and I certainly indulge in them!) but I also have had a few cavities over the years so I try to make sure I’m protecting my teeth as much as I can (after all, you only get the one set). That’s why I recommend Aquafresh® Multi Action Whitening because it is formulated to give you all-around cavity protection that lasts and includes fluoride, which provides Sugar Acid Protection. This helps to strengthen and shield teeth against sugar acid attack from everyday foods and drinks*, the key cause of cavities.
So after you’ve enjoyed all of your 4th of July sweet treats, don’t forget to floss, brush and protect those teeth!

A favorite summer snack is making our own “trail mix” with whatever we have that is leftover in the pantry, a great way to use up random snacks! This week we made trail mix using sun chips, dried cranberries, yogurt covered raisins, unsalted cashews, and dried peas!
