I’ve always dreamt of having a blue sofa with a pleated skirt one day – my Pinterest board is full of them! So when Calico Corners reached out to partner on a custom slipcover for our sofa, I knew exactly what I wanted and it was an immediate yes.

The entire process was very streamlined and straightforward. First, I had an appointment to go to a Calico location near me to meet with one of their specialists to discuss my project, look at fabrics and make selections to take home with me. Truly, one of my favorite aspects of this project is the ability to take the fabric samples home with you so you can see how the fabrics look in YOUR space, with your lighting and existing elements of the room. It made me feel so much more confident in my choice to be able to see the fabric samples in our own home, in the space they were intended for.
I really wanted to do a light blue linen for our sofa (a sofa we’ve had for six years now). Calico’s “Leyna” linen blend fabric in the color “chalky blue” was the perfect choice – it was soft, but still popped against our formal living room’s seafoam colored walls (SW “sea salt”).
Once I selected my fabric, Calico had a team pick up our sofa and straight to the workroom she went – this is where the magic happens! It takes about 6-8 weeks for a custom slipcover to be created, but I promise it’s worth the wait – it has totally transformed our space.
When the slipcovered sofa was delivered to our home, I was smiling ear to ear! It was even better than I imagined it honestly – the workmanship is beautiful. I immediately called Tammi, my Calico rep, to thank her for coordinating this project because I was honestly kind of speechless at how BOTH sofas turned out (I had our other sofa reupholstered in blue velvet via Calico also – but that’s a story for another time!)
Why a slipcover? I think they’re so versatile – plus, they can be removed for cleaning. The pleated skirt detail on this sofa added just the right touch to our formal living room – it gives off a level of polish and sophistication that really anchors the room in the style it was intended to be.
