Hello my friends! I know it’s totally cliche to start posting about fitness again in the first month of the new year, but I’m ready to move my body again, so here we are.
I took a very long break from exercising last year. After our summer vacation, we were very seriously house hunting and I just needed a break as I headed into the busy Q4 season. Then, we bought a new home and I spent months making design decisions, purchasing lighting and hardware and getting our home ready for listing/showings/selling. Needless to say, my exercise routine was the first thing to go in the chaos of those months.
I told myself I’d get back into my P.volve routine as soon as we moved into our new home, but I was exhausted, the holidays were around the corner, and I found myself wanting to work on house related projects with any extra time I had. At the end of the day, I just wasn’t motivated and felt overwhelmed by even thinking about working out (plus, there were a lot of really good Netflix series keeping me busy at night, haha).
For me, and probably many of you, getting started with that first workout is the largest obstacle to overcome. Once I do that first workout – I’m in! I get that rush and crave more movement because it feels good. But actually doing that first workout can be tough.
You can read all about why I love P.volve here and here, but, in short, it’s the only workout that really gives me quick results while being low impact on my joints and doesn’t cause me to feel inflamed and like I’m on the brink of injury. I stopped doing high intensity workouts a couple of years ago and I’ve never been happier with my body. I find that lower impact (but still very challenging) workouts like P.volve make me actually enjoy and look forward to exercising. P.volve improves my strength and balance and creates long, lean lines, all with workouts I can do right in my own home.
Here’s what I did this time around to remove as many obstacles as possible, so I could set myself up for success when restarting my fitness routine.
FIND YOUR WHY
I like low impact exercise like P.volve because it benefits my mind and body. Exercise helps with my anxiety and when I’m moving my body consistently, I just feel better overall – I have more energy, sleep better and feel stronger and more flexible. Determine your why so you can feel a surge of motivation to start that first workout – the biggest hurdle is actually starting.
P.volve has an amazing challenge happening right now that’s perfect for beginners called the Summit 60 Challenge. It runs from Jan 1. – Feb 29th – you have 60 days to complete 36 workouts (if you’re starting late like me, even half of those would be amazing!) P.volve is giving away a ton of great prizes for Summit 60 participants – including gift cards and more. Streaming costs just $19.99 a month – they actually reduced the price from $29.99 which is so exciting because the P.volve community continues to grow and the workouts are more affordable for everyone.
FIND YOUR SPACE
In our last home, I had a small/narrow office on our first floor that I emptied to use as a workout room. When we moved into our new home, I realized the best place to do my workouts would be our master bedroom. Not only is there a huge 7ft mirror so I can check my form, there’s plenty of room for my yoga mat and I can stream my workouts from my MacBook Air, placed on one of our night stands. Find a space in your home where everything is “ready to go” for your workouts – you’re more likely to stay committed if it’s easy + convenient.
SIGN UP FOR STREAMING + SET UP YOUR LAPTOP/IPAD
Once you’ve found your workout space, sign up for P.volve streaming here and set up your laptop or iPad (or whatever device you plan t0 stream from) in your workout space. I have one MacBook I use for my blog/personal use and my older MacBook is used to stream my workouts upstairs in our room. I keep my laptop in our room at all times so I can fire it up and start streaming in seconds versus having to go find it or storing it in another room.
(Kevin did something hilarious while taking this shot but it was too cute not to share)
EASY ACCESS WORKOUT CLOTHES
I change into workout clothes as soon as I’m home from work (if I plan to exercise that evening). That way, once the kids are asleep, I’m ready to go, no excuses. I moved my workout leggings and tops into a dresser right by my bed and I keep my APL running shoes (I only wear them indoors/for P.volve) in a basket along with my workout equipment. Post-bedtime is a time where most parents are rightfully exhausted and just want to chill out, but I find if I’m already dressed in my workout clothes, I can still get a 20-45 minute workout in and enjoy a show or two before my own bed time.
STORE YOUR WORKOUT EQUIPMENT WITH ACCESS IN MIND
You’re more likely to be successful if your setup is easy. I keep my P.volve equipment in a decorative basket by Kevin’s side of the bed where our mirror is and I push my yoga mat underneath our bed or roll it up and place it into the basket when my workout is complete. You can’t even tell my equipment is in the basket from afar and it’s in a convenient location, in the same space where I do my workouts. P.volve workouts often use multiple pieces of equipment in each workout, so you want to have it all accessible.
GET SUPPORT!
P.volve has a dedicated Facebook group and it’s such a great way to stay motivated. The group is full of women from all over the world with different goals and body types. It’s a place to ask questions, share your results and support one another. I’ve been a member from the start and even participated in the group when I was on my workout break. I love seeing which workouts are most loved by the community and the before and after results women share are so exciting!
I hope this post is helpful and motivating to any of you who need a plan to start a fitness routine. Watch my IG stories for peeks into my P.volve workouts and consider joining me in the Summit 60 Challenge. My favorite thing about P.volve is how quickly I see results – after just two weeks, I already start to see definition in areas where I’ve lost it from going months without exercise.

So many great ideas! I find that being kind to myself is what makes it easier to be consistent. If I miss a work out it’s not the end of the world! I just get back on track the next day. I would never shame a friend for missing a work out or taking a day off from the gym so I don’t treat myself that way!
Love the basket! Would you please LPP provide a link? Thank you!
What keeps me motivated to work out is being healthy so that I can live a long life and see my children grow. It does get hard sometimes bit being able to run around after my kids and not be out of breath is so worth it.
Staying motivated is the hardest part but once you start to feel better and build your confidence it does get easier. I like to treat myself to new workout gear even if its a new water bottle or a headband.
You are extremely motivating and make it look possible to commit to this fitness program. Thank you for continuing to inspire me!
I stay motivated and on track with great workout buddies!
